We’re heading off to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today to check out the latest technology in 2010. With over 2800 exhibitors and 20,000 new products, CES is the largest consumer technology trade show in the world.
According to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, “more technology deals will be made during the four days of CES than anywhere else on earth”. We’re hoping to line up suppliers for our “top-secret” 2TB AppleTV conversion kit (email jim@cafemac.net for more info).
CES will feature TechZones highlighting the latest trends and emerging markets, including eBooks, Experience 3D, Femto, Lifestyle, Mobile DTV, Netbooks and Safe Driver.
Big names in the industry were on stage announcing their company’s latest products. On Wednesday evening, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer showed off a range of touchscreen netbooks or “slate” computers running Windows 7. Could this be a serious challenge to the highly anticipated “iSlate” expected to be announced by Apple in a few weeks? In our opinion, no. Also, great choice on the red sweater, Steve. You looked like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family.
Motorola’s CEO, Sanjay Jha introduced the company’s latest Google Android device, the Motorola Backflip (where do they come up with these names?). It will launch in Q1 2010 and be available in the U.S. on AT&T.
We’ll be reporting back later this week with our take on more CES technology.
